Firefighters found the bodies of a man and two teenage boys inside a gutted home early Tuesday. Chula Vista Police investigators are calling the deaths an apparent murder-suicide unrelated to the fire. Police believe that the father shot and killed his two teenage sons before setting their Chula Vista home on fire and turning the gun on himself. Suicide notes were found at the home.

The house fire was reported at 1:37 a.m. Chula Vista firefighters extinguished it at about 2 a.m. Once inside, firefighters discovered the father’s body in the hallway and the bodies of two teens in their bedrooms, police told KFMB-TV.

The mother of the two teens arrived at about 8:20 a.m. and talked to the police for a few moments before shouting “No, no, no!” She was driven away in a police vehicle, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

A Chula Vista man shot and killed his two sons, 13 and 15, set his home on fire, and then turned the gun on himself, police said Tuesday.

KNX 1070′s Tom Reopelle reports several suicide notes were recovered inside the house, but investigators said that a motive has not yet been determined.

After using registration records to locate the address of the car’s owner, a Chula Vista woman, officers went to the Santa Cora Avenue apartment, where a property manager informed them that the resident and her family had moved to a townhouse on Currant Way in the Eastlake neighborhood.

As part of the investigation, the officer spotted a man’s body in a ravine some 150 feet below the bridge. No identification was found on the body. The unidentified man apparently had committed suicide by jumping off the span, according to CHP officials.

It was after performing a welfare check at Alvarez’ home that officers discovered the family. Alvarez was lying in a pool of blood, Jackman said.

Friends said the man who committed suicide is Catherine Alvarez’s boyfriend. The couple had been together for about 5 years. He was not the father of the children.

The mother and kids had recently moved from another apartment. There, they lived with the Catherine Alvarez’s boyfriend.
